How It Works
Candesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB).
•    Angiotensin II, formed via ACE (kininase II), causes vasoconstriction, aldosterone secretion, cardiac stimulation, and sodium retention.
•    Candesartan selectively blocks AT1 receptors in vascular smooth muscle and adrenal glands, reducing blood pressure by preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone release.
•    Its effect is independent of the synthesis pathway of angiotensin II.

Drug Interactions
Use with caution when combined with:
•    Glyburide, Nifedipine, Digoxin, Warfarin

Contraindications (When Not to Use)
Do not use in patients who are:
•    Hypersensitive to candesartan or any of its components

Precautions
•    Excessive blood pressure drop in patients with ischemic heart or cerebrovascular disease can lead to myocardial infarction or stroke

Warnings
1.    Hypotension may occur, especially in patients with heart failure or volume depletion. Carefully monitor and correct fluid loss before starting.
2.    May increase blood urea and creatinine in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis or a single kidney.
3.    In dialysis patients, blood pressure may be highly sensitive to candesartan. Titrate dose carefully and monitor BP closely.
