How It Works

• Piroxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties.
• The β-cyclodextrin complex helps to reduce direct contact time with gastric mucosa, minimizing gastrointestinal irritation by allowing faster dispersion and absorption of piroxicam.

Dosage

• Active Ingredient: Piroxicam β-cyclodextrin
• Dosage is prescribed by the physician based on condition severity and patient factors.

Side Effects

Very Common:

• Nausea
• Epigastric distress
• Abdominal pain, discomfort
• Flatulence
• Constipation
• Diarrhea

Others:

• Hypersensitivity (rash, headache, dizziness)
• Blood chemistry changes (elevated urea, liver enzymes)
• Asthenia (weakness)
• Vision or hearing disturbances (blurred vision, tinnitus)
• Hematological disorders (eosinophilia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia)
• Edema or fluid retention (including heart failure or hypertension)

When Not to Use

• Known hypersensitivity to piroxicam or cyclodextrin
• Peptic ulcer, gastritis, dyspepsia
• Severe hepatic, renal, or cardiac insufficiency
• Hemorrhagic disorders or blood dyscrasias
• Asthma, urticaria, or rhinitis induced by NSAIDs
• Pregnancy, lactation, and children
• Confirmed or suspected pregnancy

Precautions

• Use with caution in:
• Asthma patients (may worsen bronchospasm)
• Patients with a history of GI disorders
• Hypertensive patients (NSAIDs may reduce efficacy of antihypertensive drugs)

Warnings

Warning 1:
May reduce renal perfusion in volume-depleted patients due to prostaglandin inhibition. Caution in renal impairment.

Warning 2:
Serious GI toxicity (ulceration, bleeding, perforation) can occur with or without warning, especially with long-term use.

Warning 3:
May antagonize the effect of antihypertensives. Monitor blood pressure closely in hypertensive patients.
