Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It kills susceptible bacteria by binding
to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) inside their cell wall, blocking the final step in cell wall
synthesis, resulting in bacterial cell death.
📋 Cefiget 60mL Usage and Safety
✅ Dosage:
Contains Cefixime
 Administer according to the prescribing physician’s directions based on patient’s age
and weight
 Usually taken once or twice daily
⚠️ Side Effects:
Common:
 Diarrhea (may be severe)
 Nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort
 Dyspepsia (indigestion), headache
 Dizziness
Less Common / Serious:
 Seizures (rare)
 Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
 Elevated liver enzymes (AST, ALT, alkaline phosphatase)
 Increased serum amylase
 Discoloration of stool
🔄 Drug Interactions:
 Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin): May increase bleeding risk
 Carbamazepine: Cefixime may increase its blood levels
 Probenecid: Reduces renal excretion of cefixime, increasing its concentration

Do not use in the following situations:
 Known hypersensitivity to cefixime
 Allergy to other cephalosporins or beta-lactam antibiotics

 Broad-spectrum antibiotics may alter gut flora and cause Clostridium difficile–
associated diarrhea
3. History of GI Disease:
 Avoid use in patients with a history of colitis or gastrointestinal diseases, unless
necessary
