How It Works
Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) is produced in the skin through exposure to UV rays. It undergoes
two hydroxylation steps—first in the liver, then in the kidneys—forming the biologically active
metabolite 1,25-dihydroxy-cholecalciferol. This metabolite plays a key role in regulating calcium
and phosphate balance along with parathyroid hormone and calcitonin.

Indications
1. Dietary supplement to prevent Vitamin D deficiency in adults and children.

drug effects).
3. Treatment of Vitamin D deficiency states like rickets, osteomalacia, and osteoporosis.
Calcium supplementation must accompany Vitamin D therapy.
When Not to Use
 Hypersensitivity to Cholecalciferol or any ingredients
 Hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria
 Patients prone to calcium kidney stones
 Patients with pseudohypoparathyroidism
Precautions
 Adjust dose if using other vitamin D or calcium-containing drugs.
 Medical supervision is necessary; monitor serum and urine calcium levels.
Warnings
1. Use cautiously in patients with disturbed renal calcium and phosphate excretion.
2. Reduce dose or stop if hypercalcemia or kidney dysfunction occurs.
3. Use cautiously in sarcoidosis patients due to increased vitamin D metabolite
transformation.
