 Management of lower urinary tract symptoms associated with prostate enlargement.
How It Works:
Tamsulosin is an alpha-1A adrenergic receptor antagonist.
 It relaxes smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder neck, improving urine flow and
reducing BPH symptoms.
 This selective action helps minimize blood pressure-related side effects commonly seen
with other alpha-blockers.

Side Effects:
 Common:
o Dizziness
o Ejaculation disorders, including retrograde ejaculation and inability to ejaculate
 Uncommon:
o Headache

o Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
o Skin rash or itching
o Weakness (asthenia)

Drug Interactions:
Tamsulosin may interact with:

 CYP3A4/CYP2D6 inhibitors:

Indication:
Used to relieve urinary symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia, such as:
 Difficulty starting urination
 Weak stream
 Frequent urination, especially at night (nocturia)
When Not to Use:
Avoid Tamsulosin if you:
 Are allergic to tamsulosin or any excipients (may cause angioedema)
 Have a history of orthostatic hypotension or fainting
 Have severe liver impairment
Precautions:
 If dizziness or lightheadedness occurs, sit or lie down immediately until symptoms
resolve
 Inform your doctor if you're taking blood pressure-lowering medications, as the risk of
hypotension increases
 Inform your doctor if you've previously experienced ejaculation problems
