How It Works:
Tramadol is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic.
 It binds to μ-opioid receptors and also inhibits reuptake of norepinephrine and
serotonin, enhancing pain inhibition in the spinal cord.
 Provides both opioid and non-opioid mechanisms of pain relief.
Dosage:
Tramadol HCl
Dosage must be prescribed by a healthcare professional based on individual pain management
needs.
Side Effects:
 Common: Dizziness, sedation, headache, fatigue, dry mouth, constipation, nausea,
vomiting, sweating
 Gastrointestinal: Indigestion, hiccups, appetite changes

Drug Interactions:
 May interact with:
o Carbamazepine (lowers tramadol levels)

o Quinidine

When Not to Use:
Do not use Tramal Capsules if:
 You have known hypersensitivity to Tramadol HCl or excipients
 You are experiencing acute intoxication with alcohol, hypnotics, opioids, or
psychotropic drugs
 You have a history of seizures, unless approved by a doctor
 You are concurrently using MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping them
Precautions:
 Use with extreme caution in patients taking CNS depressants (e.g., morphine,
benzodiazepines)
 Can cause drowsiness or fainting when used with sedatives, tranquilizers,
antidepressants
 Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment
 Monitor for signs of tolerance, dependence, or withdrawal symptoms

1. Risk of Dependence:
Use with caution in individuals with history of drug abuse or addiction. Should be used shortterm under strict medical supervision.
2. Tolerance Development:
Over time, the effectiveness may decrease, requiring careful dose adjustment under medical
guidance.
3. Seizure Risk:
Increased risk of seizures when combined with certain antidepressants, antipsychotics, or in
patients with epilepsy.
