How It Works:
Cephradine inhibits the final transpeptidation step in bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to
penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), disrupting peptidoglycan cross-linking, leading to bacterial
cell death.

Side Effects:
Gastrointestinal:
 Glossitis, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, tenesmus
 Colitis, pseudomembranous colitis
Hypersensitivity:
 Mild urticaria, skin rash, edema, erythema, pruritus
 Joint pain, drug fever
Hematologic:
 Mild transient eosinophilia, leukopenia, neutropenia
Other:
 Headache, dizziness, dyspnea, paresthesia
 Candidal overgrowth, vaginitis

Indications:
 Upper respiratory tract infections: Sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngo-tracheobronchitis, otitis media
 Lower respiratory tract infections: Acute and chronic bronchitis, lobar and
bronchopneumonia
 Skin and soft tissue infections: Impetigo, abscess, cellulitis, furunculosis
 Urinary tract infections: Cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis
 Gastrointestinal infections: Bacillary dysentery, enteritis, peritonitis
When Not to Use:
 Known hypersensitivity to cephradine or any excipients
Precautions:
 Use cautiously in patients allergic to penicillins due to partial cross-allergenicity
 Use with caution in renal impairment, with dosage adjustment if necessary
Warnings:
1. Caution and dose reduction in renal failure
2. False positive urine glucose tests (Benedict's, Fehling's, Clinitest) possible
3. Prolonged use may cause overgrowth of non-susceptible microorganisms
