How It Works
Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces inflammation and
pain by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2). This decreases the production
of prostaglandins, which are substances involved in inflammation, pain, and fever.
Indication
Treatment of symptoms related to osteoarthritis
Management of rheumatoid arthritis
Treatment of ankylosing spondylitis
Relief of other types of acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain
Dosage
Typical dose: 15 mg once daily
Dose should be adjusted based on patient response and tolerability, usually starting at 7.5 mg
and increasing to 15 mg if necessary
Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration possible to minimize risks
Side Effects
Common side effects include:
Stomach pain, nausea, indigestion
Headache and dizziness
Diarrhea or constipation
Rash and itching
Fluid retention (swelling)
Elevated liver enzymes
Serious but less common side effects:
Gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcers
Kidney problems
